How To Look After Your Wedding Dress

Our blogs are always focussed on providing our Brides and Grooms with lots of wedding inspiration, planning tips and of course answering any tricky wedding related conundrums that you may have and so this month, we spoke to Exeter based Confetti Wedding Dress Cleaning who are experts in wedding dress cleaning and preservation. They tell us all about the importance of looking after your dress after the wedding has past so that you can treasure it for years to come.

Can You Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Business And How Long You Have Been Wedding Dress Cleaning Specialists?

We have been providing brides with quality wedding dress cleaning and preservation for over 25 years. We’ve cleaned hundreds of wedding dresses over the years, including those from bridal shops in our area who kindly recommend their clients to us. As specialists, we use tried and tested methods for ensuring your gown gets the care it deserves.

We consider wedding dress cleaning and preservation an art that should only be taken on by the experts. After years of service, our family-owned business is primed and ready to take on your dress. No material, design or style stumps us; your dress is in good hands!

Can Any Style, Length And Size Of Wedding Dress Be Professionally Cleaned, Even If It's A Really Delicate Fabric?

Yes, absolutely - with our highly specialist process, we are even able to clean dresses that are labelled “Do Not Dry Clean” or specify that the dress should be cleaned only by a particular brand. Even if your dress has no label at all, you can rest assured, as we’ll know how exactly to handle it anyway. It is extremely rare that we cannot clean a dress.

Every gown is unique in terms of style, length, size and fabric, and there is no one size fits all approach, but we treat each one with the right process. Even dresses made from silk or lace, or decorated with sequins or beads, can be safely and effectively cleaned by us.

How Long Will It Take For You To Clean A Wedding Dress Once It's Been Received?

We tend to allocate a 2-3 week time period for wedding dress cleaning. However, if a dress requires repairs - which can be completed by our talented seamstress - this may add an additional week to the overall timescale.

Can Stains Such As Red Wine Be Completely Removed?

We cannot guarantee that every single stain will be removed, but we can guarantee to achieve the best possible result without causing damage. Some materials like silk need a very delicate clean and other materials can stand a more vigorous clean.

How Important Is It To Get Your Dress Cleaned Swiftly After The Wedding Day?

We recommend getting your wedding dress cleaned as soon as possible after your wedding. The longer stains are left to set in, the harder they can be to remove. However, do not fear if it has been a while since your wedding - we can still have a look at cleaning it.

How Much Would It Cost To Get A Wedding Dress Professionally Cleaned By Confetti?

The price of getting your wedding dress professionally cleaned very much depends on the material, length, number of layers, additional items, and whether there are any repairs that require attention.  Our prices for wedding dress cleaning start from £155, but we also recommend adding on our preservation and storage service so you can keep your dress in fantastic condition for years to come.

You simply have to fill out an enquiry form with a few details about your dress and we will provide you with a quote.

Why Is The Way In Which You Store Your Dress After The Wedding Important?

Wedding dress storage and preservation is an important part of the service we offer because you need to preserve the condition of your dress once it has been cleaned.  Your dress will be delicately pressed and steamed, before being carefully wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and safely placed in a pH-neutral storage box, handmade by The Empty Box Company.

We then recommend that you store your dress in a suitable place - this needs to be somewhere safe and secure (away from animals, children and potential spillages) and it also needs to be a moderate temperature without humidity.

We hope that you have enjoyed this months blog! Thank you to Sam Box photography for the beautiful images.
